(born 12 August 1949) is a British guitarist, singer, songwriter, record producer and film score composer.

Mark Knopfler is best known as the lead guitarist, vocalist and songwriter for the British rock band Dire Straits, which he co-founded in 1977 with his brother David. After Dire Straits disbanded in 1995, Knopfler continued to record and produce albums as a solo artist under his own name. Knopfler has played in other groups occasionally, such as The Notting Hillbillies, and has guested on works by other artists, including Joan Armatrading, Chet Atkins, the Chieftains, Eric Clapton, The Dandy Warhols, Bob Dylan, Bryan Ferry, John Fogerty, Emmylou Harris, Jeff Healey, Jools Holland, Sonny Landreth, Phil Lynott, Van Morrison, Gerry Rafferty and Steely Dan. He has produced albums for Tina Turner, Willy DeVille, Randy Newman and even “Weird Al” Yankovic.

His musical scores include Metroland, Local Hero, Cal, Last Exit to Brooklyn, Wag the Dog, and Rob Reiner’s classic, The Princess Bride.

He is one of the most respected fingerstyle guitarists of the modern rock era and was ranked #27 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.”

The group recorded a single in 1969 entitled “Ma Belle Amie”, which was a hit in their native country, selling over 100,000 copies.
The group released an album in the United States on Colossus Records in 1970 entitled Ma Belle Amie, which reached #158 on the Billboard 200 chart, just as the single took off in America, eventually reaching #5. The single sold over one million copies, and was awarded a gold disc. In the Netherlands, the next single “She Likes Weeds” attained #1 there. However, the track was banned in the U.S., because it was said to refer to using drugs. However, the title was taken from the film The Ipcress File. A follow-up single, “If You Do Believe in Love”, hit #81. The group disbanded in 1975, but briefly reunited in 1979 and 1983.
Their former lead singer Peter Tetteroo died in September 2002 from liver cancer, at the age of 55. ….Read More

Lead vocalist Klaus Meine had to undergo surgery on his vocal cords during the writing of the album and it was uncertain whether he would be able to record it. Demos of the material were recorded with Don Dokken as vocalist; however none of those recordings are featured on the album.

Rudolf Schenker could not choose between his guitar solos on “China White”, so the US and European releases differed in this small detail.

are a British soul band that sold more than 50 million albums over a 25-year career. Their style draws influences from blue-eyed soul, new romantic, rock, reggae and jazz.
The discography of Simply Red, consists of ten studio albums, four compilation albums, one extended play, forty-five singles and a number of other appearances.

The band’s first single “Money’s Too Tight (To Mention)”, was released in 1985 reached the United Kingdom Top 20. Their debut album, Picture Book, was also released in 1985. The following year the band released “Holding Back the Years”, which reached number one in Ireland and the US and number two in the UK. Their second album, Men and Women was released in 1987. Third album A New Flame was released in 1989, containing “If You Don’t Know Me By Now”, which became their second US number one hit. Their fourth album Stars, became the best-selling album for two years running in Europe after its release in 1991 and was certified 12x Platinum in the UK.

Simply Red released “Fairground” in 1995, which became the band’s first UK number one single. Its parent album was Life. The band followed this up with cover heavy Blue in 1998 and Love and the Russian Winter in 1999. Subsequent releases were “Home” in 2003, a mixture of original songs and covers. Simplified followed in 2005, mainly an album of stripped down versions of their Classic hits. Stay was the bands tenth studio album released in 2007.
