The group recorded a single in 1969 entitled “Ma Belle Amie”, which was a hit in their native country, selling over 100,000 copies.
The group released an album in the United States on Colossus Records in 1970 entitled Ma Belle Amie, which reached #158 on the Billboard 200 chart, just as the single took off in America, eventually reaching #5. The single sold over one million copies, and was awarded a gold disc. In the Netherlands, the next single “She Likes Weeds” attained #1 there. However, the track was banned in the U.S., because it was said to refer to using drugs. However, the title was taken from the film The Ipcress File. A follow-up single, “If You Do Believe in Love”, hit #81. The group disbanded in 1975, but briefly reunited in 1979 and 1983.

(April 23, 1936 – December 6, 1988) was an American singer-songwriter and musician, well known for his distinctive, powerful voice, complex compositions, and dark emotional ballads. Orbison grew up in Texas and began singing in a rockabilly / country & western band in high school until he was signed by Sun Records in Memphis. His greatest success came with Monument Records in the early to mid 1960s when 22 of his songs placed on the US Billboard Top Forty, including “Only the Lonely”, “Crying”, “In Dreams”, and “Oh, Pretty Woman”. His career stagnated through the 1970s, but several covers of his songs and the use of one in a film by David Lynch revived his career in the 1980s. In 1988, he joined the supergroup The Traveling Wilburys with George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, and Jeff Lynne and also released a new solo album. He died of a heart attack in December that year, at the zenith of his resurgence. meaning “The Grapefruit” in French – was a faceless disco ensemble by producers Laurin Rinder & W. Michael Lewis. No actual group existed, all the vocals were done by interchangeable session singers, similar to Rinder & Lewis’ other brainchild El Coco. Debuting with the self-titled Le Pamplemousse album 1976, a string of successful 12″s followed, in particular “Le Spank” and “Get Your Boom Boom (Around The Room Room)” from their second album on which The Jones Girls contributed vocals, and “Monkey See, Monkey Do” and “Do You Have Any?”. The LPs were all packaged in erotic covers, centered around a juicy grapefruit. With the arrival of the 80s, disco’s popularity had dropped drastically, and their albums on to 1984’s final Put Your Love Where Your Mouth Is featuring some Gloria Gold were all poor sellers.

His work with synthesizers during the 1970s and 1980s had a significant influence on new wave, house, techno and electronic music in general. was formed in 1974 in Britain. In 1975 they won the RCA Soul Search Contest, whilst their first single “Let Me Take You Back in Time” was released in 1976. Finding their success quickly drying out, lead singer Leslie Johnson left the group, and their backing singer Precious Wilson stepped forward to front the band. They went on the road in Germany where Frank Farian, the producer of Boney M., took notice of them. Farian signed the group with the Germany-based Hansa Records and the band supported Boney M. on tour.

After a minor hit single with “Party Party”, their cover of “I Can’t Stand the Rain” from their first album (December 1977) was a big hit, reaching number five in the UK Singles Chart, and number 18 in U.S. Billboard Hot 100. It was followed by their second album titled Leave a Light launched towards the end of 1978. The first single of the album “I’ll Keep a Light in My Window” could not do as well as expected. (born March 13, 1939 in Brooklyn, New York) is an American pop singer, pianist, and songwriter often associated with the Brill Building. He teamed up with Howard Greenfield to write hits for himself and others. Sedaka’s voice is tenor and alto.
Sedaka was born in Brooklyn, New York on 13 March 1939. His father, Mac Sedaka, a taxi driver, was the son of Turkish-Jewish immigrants; his mother, Eleanor (Appel) Sedaka, was of Polish-Russian Jewish descent.

He demonstrated musical aptitude in his second-grade choral class, and when his teacher sent a note home suggesting he take piano lessons, his mother took a part-time job in an Abraham & Straus department store for six months to pay for a second-hand upright. He took to the instrument immediately. In 1947, he auditioned successfully for a piano scholarship to the Juilliard School of Music’s Preparatory Division for Children, which he attended on Saturdays. He also maintained an interest in popular music, and when he was 13, a neighbor heard him playing and introduced him to her 16-year-old son, Howard Greenfield, an aspiring poet and lyricist. The two began writing together.

The best-known Billboard Hot 100 hits of his early career are “The Diary” (#14, 1958), a song that he offered to Little Anthony and the Imperials; “Oh! Carol” (#9, 1959); “You Mean Everything to Me” (#17, 1960); “Calendar Girl” (#4, 1960); “Stairway to Heaven” (#9, 1960); “Run Samson Run (top 30, 1960); “Little Devil” (#11, 1961); “Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen” (#6, 1961); “Breaking Up Is Hard to Do” (#1, 1962); and “Next Door To An Angel” (#5, 1962). “Oh! Late in his teens, Vangelis joined a school band performing pop and rock hits from abroad, in addition to playing their own music. By the mid 1960’s the band adapted the name “The Forminx” and became a local sensation in Thessaloniki (Northern Greece.) Their hit record “Jeronimo Yanka” when released in 1965 sold tens of thousands of copies and soon The Forminx were known throughout Greece. Formed in Athens, the Forminx comprised of five members, lead by Vangelis on organ and keyboards, Vassilis Bakopoulos on guitar, Sotiris Arnis on bass, Costas Skokos on drums, and occasionally Tassos Papastamatis on lead vocals.
The Forminx were a phenomenal success in Greek’s popular music scene, an achievement typically reserved for traditional and folk music. Somehow, with their Western sound and modern beat, they’ve captivated Greece’s young generation who were eager and hungry to have their own supergroup. Just like any country around the block.

Though popular as they were, The Forminx were considered primarily an amateur and entertainment band with a strong teenager following. They performed at parties and events purely for fun and they didn’t get much paid for their gigs. It was the band’s enthusiasm that kept them going.

The songs were mostly credited as Vangelis compositions with a few numbers written by the collective band or by outside contributors. The lyrics were in English, which certainly helped setting them apart from the rest of the Greek artists. The released music adopted one of two styles: the semi instrumental songs with simple but catchy melodies, or the slow ballads with crooner Tassos Papastamatis. Sadly though, his English was often tainted with a heavy Mediterranean accent.

After the hit “Jeronimo Yanka” more singles were released and in total there were nine 7″ vinyl singles and an EP.

Late in 1965, a documentary film in the life of the Forminx began shooting in Thessaloniki. The film’s first producer was then Theo Angelopoulos making the debut of his film career. After shooting had started, Theo abandoned the film due to disagreements with the production team and he was replaced with Costas Lychnaras. The film however was not finished and thus never released. It was said one of the aims of the film was to promote The Forminx’ success outside of Greece and to help them eventually go on an international tour. However, The Forminx didn’t last long enough to see them traveling around the globe or getting famous outside of Greece. The Forminx disbanded in 1966 at the peak of their success. ….More

Italian brothers Angelo & Carmelo La Bionda had already had Southern European hits with their two D.D. Sound albums in 1977, recorded in Munich. In 1978, they decided to give themselves full credit and record an album as La Bionda. Basically recorded with the same crew of musicians and backing singers, the first La Bionda single “One For You, One For Me” was released in May 1978 to become a summer smash hit of the year. With its simple but irresistible nursery rhyme chorus, the song topped the Italian charts and also became a #2 hit in Germany (although only a minor #54 hit in the UK). The 5-track album was a German #10 LP when licensed to Ariola and also yielded a club hit with the 10-minutes “Sandstorm”.

The brothers spent the rest of 1978 recording the third D. D. Sound album Café while simultaneously recording the second La Bionda album Bandido, released in December, accompanied by the lead single “Baby Make Love” which couldn’t repeat the success of “One For You, One For Me”, it peaked at the German #18 while becoming a Swiss #7 hit. Just like the first album, Bandido was an equally strong Munich-disco production with the brothers’ catchy melodies and lyricist Richard W. Palmer James’ clever lyrics – in May, the title track was released as the second single, a special remix was done for the 12″ release.

For their third album release High Energy, La Bionda were aware of the change in the disco scene and followed in the footsteps of Donna Summer’s “Hot Stuff”, adding a more rock-oriented sound to their record, but neither “Disco Roller (C’mon And Rock’n Roll)” nor “I Got Your Number” did well outside Italy.

The end of 1980 saw the brothers release the quirky synth-pop tune “I Wanna Be Your Lover”, the title track off their fourth La Bionda album which was much more plain pop tunes rather than dance tracks, and the public interest was waning. They recorded a song for an Italian TV programme, 1982’s “Boxes”, but then retired from the limelight to produce other artists. In 1983, they scored another big summer hit with Righeira’s “Vamos A La Playa”. Carmelo La Bionda released the solo single “I Love You”, 1985.

The late 90s saw Toblerone chocolate revive “One For You, One For Me” for one of their commercials, and various compilation CDs have also been released. The brothers released the CD-single “Eeah Da Da” in 1997.
