L’incroyable Vérité ,

Tellier’s first album, L’incroyable Vérité (The Incredible Truth), was released in 2001. Tellier went on tour with Air in support of the album and was joined on stage by world-renowned theremin player Pamelia Kurstin. L’incroyable Vérité is a pop album featuring styles from lo-fi electronica to bizarre cabaret tunes. Its sleeve featured Tellier in full evening dress on the front, while the back of jacket had a shot of him cavorting in a playboy’s pool. He instructed listeners only to listen to the album by candle light. The track, “Fantino”, was chosen by Sofia Coppola for the soundtrack to her 2003 film Lost in Translation. ….More

Politics ,

Tellier followed L’incroyable Vérité with his second studio album Politics (2005), which, like his third album Sexuality (2008), took a single term as both its title and theme. The album dealt with ways of power and governance. The most prominent song on Politics was “La Ritournelle”, a string-led tune, which featured Nigerian drummer, Tony Allen, drummer and musical director of Fela Kuti’s band Africa 70 from 1968 to 1979. ….More

Sexuality ,

His third studio album Sexuality was produced by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo of Daft Punk. Tellier’s label Record Makers collaborated with retailer American Apparel for an exclusive three month pre-release of the album. Limited edition versions of the Sexuality CD, LP and “Divine” 7″ and 12″ single was sold in all North American American Apparel stores and on the companies website beginning 22 July 2008.

On 7 March 2008, it was announced by Bruno Berberes, head of EBU delegation in France, that Tellier would represent France in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008. It was held in Belgrade on 24 May 2008, with Tellier’s song “Divine”. This was the first time in the history of the contest that the nominated French entry was to be performed largely in English, which caused controversy, leading to Tellier pledging to increase the amount of French in the song prior to the competition itself. In total, the entry received 47 points. ….More

Electric Light Orchestra ,

commonly abbreviated ELO, were a symphonic rock group from Birmingham, England who released eleven studio albums between 1971 and 1986 and another album in 2001. ELO were formed to accommodate Roy Wood and Jeff Lynne’s desire to create modern pop songs with heavily classical overtones, but falling under a light rock category. However, the band’s direction for most of their existence was set by Lynne who, after the band’s debut record, wrote and arranged all of the group’s original compositions and produced every album.

It was in the United States that the band were first successful, billed as ‘The English guys with the big fiddles’. They soon gained a cult following despite lukewarm reviews back in their native United Kingdom. They were managed by agent Don Arden, father of Sharon Osbourne.

By the mid-1970s, they had become one of the biggest selling bands in music. From 1972 to 1986, ELO accumulated twenty-six U.K. Top 40 hit singles and twenty U.S. Top 40 hit singles. The group also scored twenty Top 20 U.K. hit singles, as well as fifteen Top 20 appearances in the U.S. Billboard charts. The band also holds the record for having the most Billboard Top 40 hits of any band in U.S. chart history without ever having a #1 single. ….More

La Bionda ,

Italian brothers Angelo & Carmelo La Bionda had already had Southern European hits with their two D.D. Sound albums in 1977, recorded in Munich. In 1978, they decided to give themselves full credit and record an album as La Bionda. Basically recorded with the same crew of musicians and backing singers, the first La Bionda single “One For You, One For Me” was released in May 1978 to become a summer smash hit of the year. With its simple but irresistible nursery rhyme chorus, the song topped the Italian charts and also became a #2 hit in Germany (although only a minor #54 hit in the UK). The 5-track album was a German #10 LP when licensed to Ariola and also yielded a club hit with the 10-minutes “Sandstorm”.

The brothers spent the rest of 1978 recording the third D. D. Sound album Café while simultaneously recording the second La Bionda album Bandido, released in December, accompanied by the lead single “Baby Make Love” which couldn’t repeat the success of “One For You, One For Me”, it peaked at the German #18 while becoming a Swiss #7 hit. Just like the first album, Bandido was an equally strong Munich-disco production with the brothers’ catchy melodies and lyricist Richard W. Palmer James’ clever lyrics – in May, the title track was released as the second single, a special remix was done for the 12″ release.

For their third album release High Energy, La Bionda were aware of the change in the disco scene and followed in the footsteps of Donna Summer’s “Hot Stuff”, adding a more rock-oriented sound to their record, but neither “Disco Roller (C’mon And Rock’n Roll)” nor “I Got Your Number” did well outside Italy.

The end of 1980 saw the brothers release the quirky synth-pop tune “I Wanna Be Your Lover”, the title track off their fourth La Bionda album which was much more plain pop tunes rather than dance tracks, and the public interest was waning. They recorded a song for an Italian TV programme, 1982’s “Boxes”, but then retired from the limelight to produce other artists. In 1983, they scored another big summer hit with Righeira’s “Vamos A La Playa”. Carmelo La Bionda released the solo single “I Love You”, 1985.

The late 90s saw Toblerone chocolate revive “One For You, One For Me” for one of their commercials, and various compilation CDs have also been released. The brothers released the CD-single “Eeah Da Da” in 1997.
